What is Mayer Gomon?
Mayer Gomon (also written Mayer Gaman, "the Mother's farewell") is Tripura's state Durga Puja carnival. It's organised by the Information and Cultural Affairs department with Agartala Municipal Corporation, and has been held in Agartala every year since 2022, a day or two after Vijaya Dashami.
Selected clubs bring their idols on decorated trucks with tableaux, dhak and cultural troupes. The Chief Minister inaugurates the parade, the best entries win prizes, and the idols are then immersed at Dashami Ghat on the Haora river.

Prizes

Tips for watching
- Come early. The inauguration is at the starting point, and the best spots along the route fill up well before the parade arrives.
- Leave the car. Roads along the route are closed on carnival evening. In 2023 traffic was stopped from Kaman Chowmuhani to Dashami Ghat from 2 PM. See Agartala Puja traffic rules.
- Dashami Ghat is the busiest stretch. If you have children with you, watch from the middle of the route instead.
- Don't go into the water at the ghat. Leave immersion to the volunteers and divers.

When is the Durga Puja carnival in Agartala in 2026?
Friday 23 October 2026, two days after Vijaya Dashami. The date was fixed at a state review meeting chaired by the Chief Minister in September 2026.
Where does the Mayer Gomon carnival start?
In 2026 the clubs gather with their idols in front of Maharani Tulsibati (MTV) Girls' HS School and move towards Dashami Ghat, where the idols are immersed.
What time does the carnival start?
The 2026 start time hasn't been announced yet. In 2024 and 2025 the carnival began at about 5 PM, after the Chief Minister's inauguration.
Which clubs take part?
Around 40 to 45 Agartala puja clubs a year, selected by the organisers. Shatadal Sangha won first prize in 2025.
Is it free to watch?
Yes. It's a public procession on city roads, so you can watch from anywhere along the route. Expect large crowds and road closures that evening.
Is Mayer Gomon the same as the Kolkata Durga Puja Carnival?
No. Kolkata's carnival is held on Red Road by the West Bengal government. Mayer Gomon is Tripura's own carnival in Agartala, started in 2022.
